March 2022
March 8- (In)visible Women: BiH, Austria, Switzerland
Women are the majority but they are still invisible in politics, business, sport and art. On the occasion of the International Women's Day, on march 10. 2022. TPO Foundation organized a panel discussion: "(In)visible women" with three wonderful panelists: professor Jasmina Husanovic, Chantal Felder from Swiss Embassy in Sarajevo, Sabine Kernthaller from Austrian Embassy in Sarajevo. The Panel was moderated by professor Zilka Spahic Siljak.
It is pointed out that many factors can make a person less visible to society – and among them are gender, race, ethnicity, religion, poverty, disability, etc. It depends on the social, political and cultural context, that can make some people more invisible than others.
Through comparisons of the three countries participants learned that women still face many obstacles, that they are underrepresented in politics and business and that international human rights norms and standards as well as national legal norms are not adequately implemented in practice and that there is no horizontal solidarity. Students and teachers from UNIGEM partner universities who participated in the discussion shared their impressions that gender equality in the Western developed countries, such as Switzerland and Austria, was much more advanced than in BiH.
The panelists concluded that apart from the policy change youth had to be encouraged to raise their voices for gender equality and social justice. The panel vide is available at link... (Passcode: kKB1+dH@)
