THE ASSOCIATION “SONATA” FROM TREBINJE
Within the project “Psychosocial Support in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, which aims to implement programs to empower associations of users of mental health services, TPO Foundation supports the work of staff of the 15 associations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the supported associations is “Sonata” from Trebinje organized a number of activities and training last year, which involved users and members of the association. Eighty members of the association help the work of the association by volunteering.
The association “Sonata”, in the framework of its activities, organizes courses of English language, computer workshop, and working therapy: art workshops (making handicrafts, painting on glass, work with shells, decoupage techniques, making jewelry), psychotherapeutic and educational workshops on different topics. Workshops and training is led by professional staff. Beautifully decorated rooms and garden are a prerequisite for a pleasant work and relaxation members and
professional staff of the association.They achieved all this by their own ideas and work.
Last year, the association organized two book promotions of its female member: “Sonata’s dreams” by Natasa Stanic and “Memories” by Jasminka Kumro. The promotion was accompanied by local media, friends, members of the association and the local community, as well as friends of the association from Serbia and Montenegro. Furthermore, the association also organized sale exhibitions of art works for World Mental Health Day, Christmas and New Year holidays. Revenue from sale exhibitions is used to purchase materials for the workshops and trainings, and a part of income is set aside for New Year holiday gifts for children of members of the association. The association “Sonata” organizes excursions for its members twice a year. It is open to cooperation and admission of new members, volunteers and beneficiaries.
