CELEBRATING IWD THROUGH DISCUSSIONS
ON POLITICAL RIGHTS AND EDUCATION WITH TEACHERS
FROM MUSA ĆAZIM ĆATIĆ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN VELIKO ČAJNO

"We all need to honor mothers, devote attention to all women and express gratitude for the effort they put into raising new generations and the entire world", said one of the teachers from Musa Ćazim Ćatić Elementary school in Veliko Čajno where TPO Foundation organized a lecture on March 5, 2018, under the title "What IWD means to us today: Political rights and education of women in BiH". The lecture was held by Ismeta Begić, the school pedagogue, and Melika Šahinović, TPO Foundation project coordinator.
After the introduction about the historical significance of March 8, a brief discussion on the roles of women and men in society took place. The attendees discussed work distributions and concluded that women should work more on distribution of responsibilities so that all family and community members equally understand the importance of family, home and all other obligations.

"We live in patriarchic environments which have a major influence on the roles of women and men, and this is certainly one of the reasons why there are not enough women in politics but also in leading positions in the economy," said one of the young interlocutors, adding that due to the accumulated obligations they have towards their families and home, women become less motivated in terms of political participation and promotion in the business environment. Participants concluded that education is a priority in overcoming all obstacles in the society, and that quality education and the active participation of all citizens in the community can contribute to the development of a stable democratic society.
