Violence against pregnant women in Bosnia and Herzegovina - family, health system and labor relations - Zlatan Hrnčić

The book „Violence against pregnant women in Bosnia and Herzegovina - family, health system and labor relations“ is intended to be used by the professional and scientific community, but also by all other stakeholders who aim to contribute to creating a better social environment for family planning, women's reproductive health and social policies in Bosnia. and Herzegovina. This publication connects the cause-and-effect factors of pregnancy, intimate partnerships, society's expectations and defines the conditions for reconciling the business and private areas of life. The focus is on the barriers that women have which are defined by the fact that they are those who are susceptible to risk factors for violent patterns of behavior within the health system, work relationships and intimate partnerships during pregnancy.

This paper clearly defines the possibilities of a positive impact trough an appropriate and timely institutional response to the recognition and prevention of violence against pregnant women, and provides a basis for planning the development of society in this area. Through empirical research, the author creates a unique matrix of violence against pregnant women, which is reflected through the observation of four types of violent patterns of behavior (physical, psychological, sexual and economic), within three areas (intimate partnerships, health and work relationships), observing three time dimensions (12 months before, during and 12 months after pregnancy) and specifically covers the period of childbirth. Society expects women to give birth as a mechanism for maintaining the stability of a community. It is necessary to provide an environment that will not unnecessarily expose pregnant women to difficulties and create obstacles that will make their pregnancy planning period, pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period more difficult. This activity represents a significant job and requires the engagement of various resources that cover several sectors. This publication provides an overview of the much-needed steps in this process.
