UNIGEM: 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM - UNIVERSITY OF BANJA LUKA
What is gender and what is sex? How do we interpret the biological characteristics that are given to us, and how are they socially imposed? How many stereotypes and prejudices appear in these areas ?; are just some of the questions that the lecturer and workshop participants sought answers to. On Tuesday, November 16, 2021. The first of three workshops dedicated to marking and promoting the global campaign "16 Days of Activism" was held in the amphitheater of the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Banja Luka. The workshops are organized within the UNIGEM project, which is implemented by the TPO Foundation in cooperation with 17 universities from BiH, Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro, with the financial support of the British Embassy in BiH.
The topic of the first workshop was "The concept of gender equality", and the present students and teachers had the opportunity to get to know and discuss different definitions of the concept of gender equality, gender differences, patterns of reproduction of gender inequalities, examples of "banalization". gender inequalities in popular culture, examples of deconstruction of gender stereotypes in popular culture, etc.
Workshop participants unanimously agreed that the concept of gender equality is an unjustifiably neglected topic at UNIBL and that much more emphasis should be placed on its promotion and implementation in both academic and non-academic contexts. The moderator of the workshop was Dr. Dalibor Savić, assistant professor at the Study Program Applied Sociology, Faculty of Political Science, University of Banja Luka and a member of the Advisory Board for Gender Equality at the University of Banja Luka.
