UNIGEM: 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM - GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE: CONCEPT, DEFINITIONS, STATISTICS AND POLICIES (UNIVERSITY OF NOVI SAD)

The second workshop at the University of Novi Sad was held by Dr. Zorana Antnonijević, entitled: Gender-Based Violence: Concept, Definitions, Statistics and Policies. Dr. Antnonijevic explained that violence is a global phenomenon. Nearly half a million people in the world are in a situation of actual or potential violence every minute. And each of these manifestations of violence has its own gender dimension.

At the lecture, she spoke about the origins of the development of the concept of gender-based violence, what types of this violence exist and how it is defined. The latest research on the frequency of violence in Serbia, as well as on the most common forms, is also highlighted.

Finally, the problem of gender-based violence and violence against women is viewed from the theoretical perspective of gender studies and sociology, ie feminist studies of violence that are emerging in the world. Special attention is paid to the latest research on gender-based violence in scientific research institutions. The last part of the lecture was dedicated to policies and strategies to combat gender-based violence at the national, regional (EU) and transnational levels (UN).
