UNIGEM: STUDENT ACTIVITIES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF RIJEKA
Within the project University and gender mainstreaming, and on the occasion of the campaign "16 days of activism" the Student Union of the University of Rijeka held a panel discussion on economic inequalities and menstrual poverty entitled "Cycle 28" which marked the beginning of the student project "UNIRI Things" providing hygiene supplies at the University of Rijeka and raising awareness of the importance of reproductive and menstrual health in the community.
The forum gathered 60 participants. 4 stories about the experiences of menstruating persons were obtained, of which 3 were read. Marija Špoljarić from the Student Union, through the project "UNIRI Stvari" announced that from 2022, more environmentally friendly menstrual supplies for students and employees will be available at all Rijeka faculties. So far, boxes with menstrual supplies have been installed at 22 components of the University of Rijeka, and 16 volunteers are involved who take care of the distribution of menstrual supplies on a regular basis.
Adding that the project was presented at the national level, the President of the Student Union Neven Pintarić announced that the University of Split and Pula have expressed their readiness to launch projects, and that there is interest at the University of Zagreb.
