Education of non-teaching staff of the University of Sarajevo on gender mainstreaming policies continues

As a part of the activities of the UNSA Council for Gender Equality and the University Gender Resource Center (UNIGeRC), on Jun 6th and 7th educations for non-teaching staff titled “Gender Mainstreaming Policies at the Organizational Units of the University of Sarajevo” were organised, during which the basics of the concept of gender-based violence and discrimination, and sexual harassment will be presented. These two educations were led by Prof. Dr Amila Ždralović, professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Sarajevo and Prof. Dr Valida Repovac Nikšić, professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Sarajevo, both members of the UNSA Council for Gender Equality. In addition to providing information about what gender-based violence is, what are its forms, how to recognize it and how to proceed if any form of gender-based violence occurs, the aim of education is to present both documents and institutional mechanisms that faculties and the University can use to protect all their employees, as well as students, against different aspects of this type of violence.

Representatives from the Faculty of Health Studies, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dental Medicine with Clinics, Faculty of Veterinary, as well as representatives from the Academy of Fine Arts and Academy of Performing Arts were attended these two educations.

Beside the topics concerning the concept of gender-based violence at universities, participants were presented with the results of the UNIGEM survey conducted at UNSA in 2021, on a sample of students, teaching and administrative staff. The UNSA Gender Action Plan was discussed, and as well as the Protocol on the treatment of sexual and sexually based harassment as a form of violence in the administration organs, public companies, public institutions and legal entities founded by Sarajevo Canton, and Guidelines for the prevention of sexual and gender-based harassment, harassment based on sexual orientation, gender identity and sexual characteristics at UNSA.

The next week, two more educations are planned in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies “Prof. Dr Zdravko Grebo”, and lecturers will be professors from the University of Sarajevo, members of the UNSA Council for Gender Equality.

The education is organized as part of the project “The University and Gender Mainstreaming (UNIGEM)”. Project is supported by the UK Government and implemented by the TPO Foundation.
