16 days of activism: The UNSA Faculty of Philosophy organized an exhibition of student works and an accompanying workshop against gender-based violence

On December 1st, 2022, the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo organized an exhibition of student works as part of the “16 days of activism for gender equality” campaign of the UNIGEM project with the aim of encouraging the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls and raising public awareness of the need for active engagement in that fight. The exhibition will be displayed in the hall of the Faculty until the end of the Campaign, until December 10th, 2022, when the International Human Rights Day is celebrated. An accompanying workshop was also organized, a conversation with students who participated in the realization of the exhibition.

The exhibition and workshop were organized and realized by: prof. Ph.D. Ajla Demiragić, prof. Ph.D. Amila Kasumović, prof. Ph.D. Edina Spahić Šagolj, prof. Ph.D. Đenita Tuce, assistant professor Ph.D. Amina Isanović Hadžiomerović and Prof. Ph.D. Nejla Kalajdžisalihović.

In parallel, on the occasion of the “16 Days of Activism for Gender Equality” campaign, male and female students of the History Department of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo, under the mentorship of prof. Ph.D. Amila Kasumović created a video that thematises the problem of violence against women through different historical periods. They chose several examples from the past that show that violence against women was present from the classical era until today and that it was an integral part of the relationship towards women in patriarchal communities on all continents. Violence knows no nation, race, age, or social background, and comes in different forms. You can watch the video on the YouTube channel of the University Gender Resource Centre (UNIGeRC) via the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkafJL6deN8&t=122s.

The activities of the “16 Days of Activism for Gender Equality” campaign were realized within the framework of the UNIGEM project, which the TPO Foundation from Sarajevo implements in partnership with 19 universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region (Montenegro, Croatia, Serbia), including the University of Sarajevo, with the financial support of the United Kingdom Government. The project represents the university’s strategic commitment to ensuring gender equality and a safe environment for teachers and students at universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region by introducing a gender perspective.
