In the period from January 28 to February 26, 2023 matches of the League for Equality are being played. Both female and male students of the University of Sarajevo compete in futsal, volleyball, and basketball, and the teams are made up of an equal number of women and men. The selection of groups was held in the amphitheater of the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education of the University of Sarajevo, and the first matches were played on January 4 and 5.
The goal of the League for Equality is to empower the student population in areas of gender equality and prevention of sexual and gender-based harassment through sports activities. The TPO Foundation and the University Gender Resource Center of the University of Sarajevo (UNIGeRC) support this activity through the UNIGEM project. The project “UNIversity and Gender Mainstreaming” (UNIGEM) is a four-year project financially supported by the British embassy, and represents the the strategic commitment of universities to ensure gender equality and a safe environment for teachers and students by introducing a gender perspective at universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
The location of the aforementioned sports activities is the R Sport Center hall at the address: Patriotske lige bb (no. 50), Jezero – Koševo estate, 71 000 Sarajevo. The matches are held on weekends and everyone is welcome to watch and support the teams. Match dates are:
– on Saturdays from 08:00 -19:00,
– on Sundays from 08:00 – 13:00.
The finals will be held on February 26, 2023 as well as the award ceremony.
