he Sarajevo Second Gymnasium hosted a series of three workshops with students aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence. The workshops were held from November 27 to December 10, 2024, as part of the “16 Days of Activism – Fighting Gender-Based Violence” campaign, organized by the TPO Foundation.
Under the mentorship of Professor Lejla Čaušević, the students of the II-3 IB class took part in the first workshop on November 27, 2024, dedicated to this topic. They first presented their research on gender-based violence and then engaged in a discussion, posing questions about the impact of gender-based violence on individuals and society as a whole. Special emphasis was placed on the role of education and mutual respect in preventing gender-based violence.
Professor Sandra Muratović worked with the III-3 IBDP students on the topic “Femicide – Causes, Consequences, Solutions.” The students were tasked with creating posters, presentations, and infographics on violence against women and femicide. During class discussions, they offered their suggestions on how to actively participate in solving the issue of violence against women.
The “16 Days of Activism” campaign at the Second Gymnasium concluded with a workshop led by the students of the IV-2 IB class under the guidance of Professor Elmana Cerić. The students presented the information they had gathered, emphasizing that violence against women is a global issue affecting one in three women, with long-term consequences such as depression, anxiety, unintended pregnancies, and sexually transmitted diseases. They presented various forms of violence, including intimate partner violence, sexual violence, femicide, human trafficking, and harmful practices such as child marriage. They also discussed the causes, consequences, and potential solutions.
It is important to note that through these activities, 60 students were directly educated about gender-based violence, while all school staff, students, and their parents were indirectly informed.
