The Student Union proudly participated in the ’16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence’ campaign, organized as part of the UNIGEM Project through a series of workshops across various faculties. The goal of these activities was to raise awareness among students about the importance of recognizing and preventing gender-based violence, with a focus on education, empowerment, and building mutual trust.
At the Faculty of Medicine, a workshop on mental health was held on December 9, 2024. Through interactive sessions and lectures, students had the opportunity to discuss the importance of mental health and its connection to gender-based violence. Students Hana Muslić, Asmira Herić, and Amna Alihodžić highlighted the crucial need for ongoing conversations about mental health as a preventive measure against violence. The discussion emphasized the importance of destigmatizing mental illnesses and providing support to those affected by violence.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Polytechnic Faculty organized a panel discussion titled ‘The Future of Technology: Women in IT and Mechanical Engineering.’ Student speakers Vildana Durić from the Polytechnic Faculty and Saida Skopal from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering shared their experiences and perspectives on the challenges and opportunities women face in these traditionally male-dominated industries. The discussion was highly inspiring, encouraging participants to consider new possibilities and strive for success in technology fields.
Students from the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Economics organized a workshop focusing on ‘Economic Violence and Legal Protection.’ During the workshop, participants concluded that economic violence is often an overlooked form of abuse that must be recognized and treated similarly to psychological violence. Students learned how the law addresses economic violence, its various forms, and the legal protections available to victims. The importance of civic responsibility in reporting any form of economic violence was also emphasized to ensure appropriate support for victims.
These workshops attracted a significant number of students, highlighting the seriousness and relevance of the topics discussed. The Student Union believes that such projects are essential for raising awareness of gender-based violence and its various forms, as well as for the importance of timely recognition and response. The campaign activities demonstrated great potential for further collaboration in similar projects, and the Student Union looks forward to future initiatives that will contribute to creating a safer and more equal environment for all students.
