The “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign and the observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women were also held at Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek. The campaign was launched with a lecture at the Faculty of Philosophy in Osijek on November 27, 2024, given by Prof. Dr. Anita Dremel. She spoke about the UNIGEM project, the Gender Equality Committee of the University of J.J. Strossmayer in Osijek, and the challenges and importance of raising awareness about gender-based violence.
The goal of the lecture was to provide detailed information about the activities and contribute to raising awareness of gender-based violence and the importance of supporting those affected by it.
Additionally, on November 26, 2024, a roundtable discussion on the topic “Combating Gender-Based Violence – Do We Have an Effective Approach?” was held at the Faculty of Law in Osijek. The panelists included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barbara Herceg Pakšić, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anita Dremel, Asst. Prof. Dr. Dinka Caha, and Dunja Bonacci Skenderović.
The participants of the roundtable, coming from various fields, presented mechanisms contributing to the occurrence of gender-based violence, the consequences it has on victims and society as a whole, highlighted strategies needed for a more effective fight against gender-based violence, and discussed how legislation and society as a whole can contribute to this cause.
As part of the campaign, a book promotion of “Discourses of Gender Justice” took place on December 4, 2024. This book contains analyses of verdicts related to gender-based violence and was the third activity within the “16 Days of Activism” campaign at the University of Osijek. The book was promoted at the Faculty of Philosophy in Osijek, with the speakers being Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barbara Herceg Pakšić, Dr. Ljiljana Pintarić, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anita Dremel.
The “16 Days of Activism” campaign at the University of Osijek concluded on December 10, 2024, with a poster exhibition and messages of support at the Faculty of Philosophy.
