“16 Days of Activism” at the University of Donja Gorica

The campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” at the University of Donja Gorica was carried out through the screening of the documentary film “Šejla” by Velibor Čović, produced by “NVU Arlekin.” The campaign was implemented as part of the UNIGEM project by the TPO Foundation.

The documentary “Šejla” was made in 2022 with the goal of raising public awareness about violence against women and girls, as well as violence in general, which is a significant societal problem in Montenegro. The film tells the story of the late Šejla Bakija, a tragically lost young woman, and has become a symbol of civil resistance to violence against women.

Additionally, during the campaign, a short video was created to summarize all the organized activities. The video was made for the University’s social media channels to raise awareness about gender-based violence as a social issue among students and faculty who were unable to attend the activities.

On December 5, 2024, the University of Donja Gorica’s Faculty of Culture and Tourism hosted a lecture on the topic “Peer Violence and Violence in Adolescent Relationships.”

The lecture had an educational and preventive character, focusing on recognizing, understanding, and preventing violence among young people, with particular emphasis on peer violence and violence that occurs within the context of adolescent relationships.

Key topics were discussed regarding the causes and consequences of these forms of violence, as well as ways in which young people can protect themselves or assist their peers in risky situations.
