As part of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign, an exhibition of works created during the Winter School “Gender and Art” was opened at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Tuzla, on December 5, 2024. The campaign at the University of Tuzla began on November 26 with the message “Support Survivors and Victims of Gender-Based Violence.”
Students from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region aimed to visually represent the fight for women’s rights, the battle against violence, and gender equality through their art. Art served as their tool for expressing this struggle.
The main goal was to use art as a way to raise their voices and advocate for equality, for a society with more tolerance and fairness—goals that serve as a long-term vision for all.
The artworks were created during the seven-day Winter School “Gender and Art,” held at the end of October. A total of 50 artists and students from art academies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, and Croatia participated.
The works were created under the guidance of Professor Nela Hasanbegović from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. In addition to the exhibition, professors and students conducted various other activities as part of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign.
The campaign concluded on December 10, International Human Rights Day, when students and professors gathered again at the same location. During this final gathering, messages left by young people in support of the fight against violence were read aloud.
