Within the framework of the UNIGEM project, a three-day teacher training on the integration of gender perspectives into the teaching of social and humanistic sciences was held in Sarajevo from August 28th to 29th, 2023. One of the major challenges in education is how to incorporate a gender perspective into existing curricula and programs without it being merely “adding women,” as it has traditionally been understood and still is.

To assist teachers with concrete suggestions for specific subjects, especially language and literature, history, sociology, and pedagogy, educators provided concrete examples and methods for structuring teaching lessons to be gender-responsive. The key question that every teacher should address is: At which stage of curriculum development can existing differences between women and men leading to segregation be observed? Based on the answers, an analytical framework can be developed. The training was led by Jadranka Rebeka Anić and Zilka Spahić Šiljak.
