“16 Days of Activism” Campaign Successfully Concluded at the International Burch University

The International Burch University, under the auspices of the UNIGEM project, once again joined the global “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign. This year’s campaign theme, “Open Your Eyes,” was launched on November 26, 2024, with the opening of an interactive student exhibition. The exhibition was the result of collaboration between students from various departments taking the course “Gender Equality in Society,” and it remained open to the public until December 10, 2024. Visitors had the opportunity to leave messages of support for the victims and survivors of gender-based violence, further reinforcing the messages of solidarity and awareness.

As part of the campaign, historian Merjema Spahić held a workshop on December 4, 2024, titled “Historical Narratives and Gender-Based Violence.” The workshop involved active student participation through discussions and practical activities, offering a deeper understanding of the historical contexts surrounding gender-based violence.

As the third activity of the campaign, the University marked the 250th anniversary of the ballad “Hasanaginica” with an event organized in collaboration with the university library and the Literature Lovers’ Club. The event featured a reading of “Hasanaginica” in five languages (Bosnian, English, German, Italian, and French), highlighting its universal significance and the enduring relevance of gender equality themes. This event served as the concluding act of the campaign, encouraging reflection on the fight for equality among students and staff.

All campaign activities were conducted under the UNIGEM project, which aims to empower the university community in the fight against gender-based violence and promote gender equality. The project is implemented by the TPO Foundation, ensuring the high quality and relevance of all activities.

The “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign at the International Burch University, coordinated by Dr. Adem Olovčić, was successfully executed, providing students and staff with opportunities for active participation and education. The University remains committed to continuing activities that promote gender equality and raise awareness about the importance of fighting all forms of violence.
