On Thursday, 14th December 2023, the TPO Foundation in cooperation with the Police Women’s Network and the NGO DTCare, in the premises of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), as part of the University and Gender Mainstreaming (UNIGEM) Project held educational activities, consisted of four lectures titled:
– Security and trust (lecturer Prof. Dr Mirza Smajić, Head of the Department of Security and Peace Studies, Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo)
– Gender stereotypes (lecturer Prof. Dr Zilka Spahić Šiljak, Director of the TPO Foundation and Professor of gender studies at the University of Zenica)
– From micro to macro: how micro-aggression leads to macro-discrimination (lecturers Assistant Professor Amer Smailbegović, DTCare, and Zemira Konjalić, Director of the DTCare Representative Office)
– Law on protection against domestic violence, the Istanbul Convention and criminal legislation (lecturer Branka Mašić, retired judge of the High Court for Misdemeanors of the Republic of Croatia).
The training was attended by a total of 24 female police officers, representatives of: Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH, SIPA, Border Police of BiH, Federal Police Administration, Judicial Police of FBiH, Ministry of internal affairs of Zenica-Dboj Canton and Ministry of internal affairs of Hercegovina-Neretva Canton.
During the education, it was pointed out that ‘trust is a key factor for the establishment of political stability, security and economic prosperity of a country’, while security is ‘a state in which the balanced physical, spiritual, social and material survival of an individual and social community is ensured in relation to other individuals, social communities and nature’.
In terms of gender stereotypes, the importance of distinguishing between gender and sex was highlighted, what was followed by a short workshop on today’s gender roles in everyday life.
In the section on micro aggression and discrimination, the focus was on rhetorical strategies that can help in conflict situations, while in the section on criminal legislation, the emphasis was on the interpretation of the Istanbul Convention and the practical application of certain provisions of the Law on Protection from Domestic Violence.
The certificates were given to the policewomen who participated in the training.
